Double Movement
According to Karl Polanyi between 1790 and 1834 there was a revolution in which an unregulated free market was firmly established in Great Britain and spread to the rest of the world.
It was founded upon three false commodities land, labor, and money.
Land is the earth or nature existing independent of the market. Labor human beings living humans independent of the market. Money tokens of exchange existing as an agreed upon medium of exchange with no real value except the value we agree upon. The effects were catastrophic from the very beginning destroying families, communities, nature and leading to wild speculations and destroying the very moral fiber of society. A second movement sprang up immediately to curb the excesses of the market undermining this very same revolution. Thus, capitalism moves from crisis to crisis and resolving the fact it is based upon a fiction that requires permanent crisis management.
Study history before 1790 there was only some sort of if not socialism, at least not capitalism. Socialism has worked for 50,000 this is well documented by history, anthropology and archeology.
Before capitalism because of reciprocity generalized sharing of members within the village during rough times, and redistribution from the central warehouse fed people when all else failed. Except during famines, we had each other’s back. Now without a job you are in trouble. Before everyone worked for social responsibility not cash and it worked for 50,000 years
