LET US BE JUDGED

Let any nation be judged by how decent it treat its immigrants. Loathing and panic weakens us as a people. When immigrants were welcomed, America was enriched and when they were restricted America declined into a self-imposed Dark Ages.

Immigration is the soul of America. Each generation of Immigrants broaden the healthy and innovative potency of America. The immigrant brings her talent into the spirit and magnetism of this land. Each wave of immigrant brought with them their cultures and their worldview that was integrated into general American lifestyle without losing the richness and diversity of the immigrant folk culture. Immigrants legal or illegal were the strength of the Republic and its single greatest hope.

However, there were elements that feared that which is innovative and enhanced this land. Not seeing that people from another society can offer more than hope but also salvation. The Immigration Act of 1924, which successfully slowed Eastern and Southern Europe immigrants by at least 80 percent weaken all of America. The shame was it was in place through World War II and the Holocaust. Are we again driven by silly panic?

Terrorism is as home grown as it is imported. This is not an issue of immigration. Sweatshops and illegal workers taking jobs away from American workers is a problem of immoral employment practices and free trade, not immigrants.  By guaranteeing decent wages for every worker in America can we lessen the fear of losing our jobs. By insisting on fair trade globally we can make certain we buy only from nations that ensure good wages and benefits to their workers as we protect jobs at home. By realizing that super profits keep prices high and wages low can we deal with the problems we falsely blame on the immigrant.
