Higher education and social awareness

Higher education should have one of its goals, is a style of learning that inspires individuals to understand our place in the larger community while preparing them to come to terms with both the struggle and complexity of our lives and others. The diversity, and the change that each of us encounters will also help us develop a strong sense of social responsibility. This ethical agenda set our educational goals in an outline for learning in which we apart of a larger community. Our goals include developing skills that embrace a love for our craft, an idea of empathy for others who maybe different than ourselves, and yet because we have an imagination we are capable of understanding based upon our own experiences.  The classes we take and the life choices we make including the occupations we choose will have and impact on others.  By seeing the connections between the different classes we take at western, we learn a broader perspective and a deeper learning experience that everything is connect and has real world implications.  These include the role we play in the world around us.

These rational and real-world services based on empathy, social responsibility and good citizenship will not only provide us personal satisfaction, but also make us an integral part of a better world to pass on to the next generation.

Spinoff skills such as communication, analytical, and problem-solving abilities, and a demonstrated ability to apply knowledge and skills in real-world settings should have as one of its goals a contribution to our community and the larger global environment social, cultural and natural.
