Past Issues 2

Imperialism, nationalism, fascism, racism, fundamentalisms, homophobia, sexism are these terms emotionally charged rhetoric or are they symptoms of an malevolent infection, a malignancy that is triumphing over compassion?  When issues facing this nation are hard to understand and deal with, cowardice becomes attractive.  Simple answers for complex problems, extreme national chauvinism, and romanticism of a past that never was, have become the overbearing philosophy of a Washington that has lost its moral leadership. With a colonial war abroad, even with the best possible spin on the war in Iraq this conflict comes off as Imperial greed and Colonial conceit.  If we were to support our troops we would stand in opposition to Pax Americana and become patriots of humanity.  A second absurdity to focus our attention way from issues like poverty, war, imperialism and xenophobia is the flap on gay marriage, and the sanctity of marriage. Homosexuality is not a perversion, and a loving couple should have the benefits of marriage.  The pornographic perversion is those degenerates who worry about things that truly should be none of their business.  Flag waving mindlessness, gay marriages, and other non-issues are simple-minded alternatives to the necessary dismantling of an evil empire.  As this campaign gets under way we need to talk about poverty, hunger, and war. We have economy that is carefully regulated to benefit the wealthy and the powerful. We are not even discussing restructuring the economy in a way to benefit the majority of working people or the poor left behind.  Where is the cry to more equitably distribution of needed resources, jobs and opportunities?
