Even though we die alone and death is highly personal. Death is always a public event. Some one is no longer here. Because of this throughout life death is a constant companion. If we fully accept death we can embrace life as a total celebration. Knowing I can die at anytime and someday I will die gives life meaning and this meaning becomes all the more important. Death liberates life. Existence becomes a festivity of gratification infused with significance. Nothingness makes being all the more valued. Life limited in space and time is life lived to the fullest.

The importance of the above is that everyone has choices, however limited. The first choice is the possibility to say no. To say no to an evil may cost you your life, but the choice is there, and cannot ever be escaped. This option means that you are required to take full responsibility for the choices you make. Dishonesty does not hide responsibility.

I take Epicurus and the neo-epicureans at their word.
